Job Summary:

The Science and Medicine Graduate Research Scholars (SciMed GRS) program seeks to enhance the experiences of underrepresented graduate students in the biological sciences. SciMed GRS is a unique program offering professional development, community resources, and funding opportunities for underrepresented minority students. The program currently supports over 140 students in 37 graduate programs spanning four schools and colleges on campus.
This is a full-time position that will assist SciMed Graduate Research Scholars staff with a wide variety of student services, programmatic, and administrative tasks. This includes:
-Development, coordination, and implementation of professional development resources and events for graduate scholars
-Development, coordination, and facilitation of community activities for graduate scholars
-Provide support and advising of program scholars. Meet individually with scholars regarding degree progress and academic progress, assist scholars with problem-solving and crisis intervention, make appropriate referrals to campus and community resources
-Maintain accurate records of student progress reports
-Administration of fellowship awards, including preparing materials, forms, and letters
-Prepare and publish printed and online materials and resources
-Website and database management and maintaining files and archival information
-Assisting with data reports related to recruitment, retention, and professional development
-Development, planning, and coordination of recruiting events. Meet with prospective students and serve as resource contact for prospective students
-Development of a stronger working relationship with diversity offices among schools and colleges on campus
-Additional duties as assigned by the SciMed GRS Director
A successful applicant will have experience in supporting a welcoming environment for students of all backgrounds and will have a strong commitment and experience with underrepresented STEM graduate education and interest in educational programming and student services. The selected applicant must:

Responsibilities:
Schedules logistics and secures resources for an educational outreach program, plans, facilitates, and evaluates related events, and may instruct courses for an adult outreach program in support of preparing individuals to be successful in their higher education endeavors.
  • 15% Designs and drafts program specific materials and resources for an educational outreach program for adult students
  • 30% Develops, facilitates, and evaluates educational outreach program content and materials for adult students
  • 10% Identifies opportunities for adult educational outreach program improvement or new service development
  • 25% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of educational outreach program events and conferences
  • 20% Support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programming initiatives to ensure student success

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
-One year of experience working with students of multicultural backgrounds (e.g., working with students from multicultural backgrounds in the area of: academic affairs, or advising, or teaching, etc.)
-Familiarity with graduate academic programs in STEM fields (e.g., previous experience in an academic or STEM-related role; graduate student advising; graduate student support; or previous graduate school experience)
-Efficiently managing multiple tasks with multiple deadlines (organizing, prioritizing, identify and solve problems; consistently meeting deadlines; attention to detail; accuracy, etc.)
-Providing administrative and/or programmatic support to someone in a leadership role or to a team (e.g., coordinates schedules; prepares and submits reports; manages information electronically; assists with event planning/activities; liaison to internal and external partners; budget coordination)
-Supporting a welcoming environment for students of all backgrounds (e.g., engagement, safety, connectedness, support, etc.)
-Helping students achieve personal and academic excellence (e.g., connecting students with resources; tutoring or academic advising; mentoring students to help overcome challenges, etc.)
-Using word processing, email, spreadsheets, and database software to organize information, create mail merges, manage data, and perform basic analyses (Microsoft Office Suite, Google, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
-Basic website maintenance; experience creating scheduling polls (doodle, google forms); Qualtrics surveys
-Experience with communication and/or marketing tools (e.g., social media platforms, Mailchimp, Canva, etc.)


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. Normal hours are 7:45am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends may be required for this position.

Salary:

Minimum $56,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The anticipated salary range for this position is $56,000 - $62,000. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits. Additional Information:

-A criminal background check will be conducted on the selected candidate.
-A one-year evaluation period will be required.
-Occasional night and weekend for special event work.
