Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The Behavioral Health Springboard (BHS) at the School of Social Work, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, links current research to initiatives in mental health and substance use disorder treatment systems. BHS offers curricula development, technical assistance, program consultation, and face-to-face and online educational programs. Collaboration between the university and the community (local, regional/state, global) is mutually beneficial for the exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. These exchanges enrich scholarship and research; enhance curriculum, teaching, and learning; prepare educated, engaged citizens; strengthen values and civic responsibility; address critical societal issues; and contribute to the public good. Our training resources, products, and experienced staff help organizations design effective service delivery systems and assist with the transitions needed to implement evidence-based practices for improved client outcomes and systems efficiencies. |
Position Summary | This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.If business needs change, an individual employee’s designation may be adjusted with a required minimum of ten (10) business days ‘notice unless employee conduct or safety issues necessitate otherwise at the discretion of management. The School Based Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training Coordinator will report to the BHS Director and will be primarily responsible for implementation of MHFA training curricula (Youth, Teen, Adult) in NC schools and youth serving organizations. This position will assemble and organize trainings and resources, scheduling, coordinate technical assistance for MHFA program instructors, coordinate the Teen retreat and supplement instructor training events, and implement program evaluation activities. The School Based MHFA Training Coordinator will provide ongoing MHFA trainings (youth, teen, adult), serve as the primary point of contact to disseminate MHFA training and information throughout NC schools and youth serving organizations. The position will also support the development of school based MHFA marketing materials and other multimedia outreach tools (eg. Website, videos, web articles). This position will require up to 25% travel and the ability to move up to 25 lbs. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | * Ability to manage workload both independently and collaboratively without immediate direct supervision. * Ability to think critically and use conflict resolution skills to solve complex logistical and interpersonal problems involving diverse stakeholder populations (schools, community-based organizations, university). * Approachable, calm style that encourages open communication across stakeholders. * Certified Mental Health First Aid instructor (youth, teen, adult) through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing * One year of progressively responsible program development and/or project management experience of behavioral health programs within a k-12 school setting. * Licensed or eligible to obtain licensure as a behavioral health clinician (eg. LCSW, LCAS, LCMHC, LPC, LMFT) |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | * Master’s degree in social work, psychology, public health, education or a related human services field of study * At least one year of experience in direct service delivery with school behavioral health programs or initiatives * Engagement with multiple levels of school based administrators (principals, district, state). * Experience using implementation science tools and strategies to support adaptation of innovations * Experience using data to problem-solve and develop a continuous quality improvement process * Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills |
Special Physical/Mental Requirements | * Valid driver’s license with personally reliable transportation that can be used to transport training materials to training sites. * Ability to move up to 25lbs. |
