The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University in Pullman, WA, invites applications for a full-time, 9-month academic year, Assistant Professor, career-track. This non-tenure track appointment begins August 16, 2023. This position is eligible for promotion. Generous startup and relocation package.

Summary of Duties:

Contribute to one or more of the College’s scholarship areas through undergraduate teaching, research or creative activity, and grant-seeking in multimedia journalism. Teach courses in the Murrow College of Communication, including the Department of Journalism and Media Production. 


Required Qualifications:

Candidates will have earned a master’s degree before the date of hire. Successful candidates will be expected to serve as a liaison with the professional community and other constituents and to perform service functions within the profession, university, and/or college.  

  

Requirements include the ability to teach undergraduate classes in news writing and an interest in one or more of the following areas:   

  • Public affairs journalism  

  • Social or mobile media  

  • Media innovation and entrepreneurship  

  • Multicultural communication  

  • Audience engagement  

  • Web design 


Preferred Qualifications:

We seek candidates with professional experience in news writing and reporting for multimedia platforms. Preference will be given to candidates who provide evidence of significant achievement in professional or creative work, successful teaching, willingness and ability to create additional courses related to the candidate’s experience and interests, experience working on grant-funded projects, and/or leadership experience in news organizations.

The Murrow College of Communication features two undergraduate departments, Strategic Communication and Journalism and Media Production. The Murrow graduate program includes residential MA and PhD programs as well as professionally oriented online MA programs. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
