SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY PROGRAM MANAGER

The Creighton University Health Education Alliance is seeking a Program Manager for scholarly activity to help navigate Creighton learners through the research process within Alliance members and develop other scholarly products. This role will serve as the primary point of contact for Creighton medical students, residents, and fellows in Phoenix for instruction around how to initiate research projects, provide connection to mentors and resources, and assist in navigating the Alliance member IRB processes. The Scholarly Activity Program Manager will promote and expand the scholarly activity footprint in Arizona under Creighton University School of Medicine.

  • Build relationships and partner with research administration personnel at Valleywise Health, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, and Creighton University to understand the workflow of each site. Serve as liaison between Creighton University School of Medicine - Phoenix and IRB leadership within Alliance members. Participates as needed in leadership committee meetings, establishes, and maintains close collaborations with Alliance members; and serves on relevant committees within the teaching sites.
  • Partner with School of Medicine leaders to oversee, manage and ensure accreditation compliance for medical students and residents around research and scholarly activity. Stays abreast of frequently changing regulations, guidelines, accreditation requirements and other content related to resident and student scholarly activity requirements.
  • Support Creighton Alliance and School of Medicine committees in Phoenix that pertain to scholarly activity, research, patient safety, and quality improvement.  Participate in annual orientations and department meetings as needed to introduce/educate School of Medicine learners and faculty in Phoenix.
  • Manages workflow for Creighton learners and Alliance member personnel as it relates to scholarly activity, research, patient safety, and quality improvement project process.   Direct learners to appropriate resources for research education training and support, such as statistical analysis.  Develop partnerships outside of Alliance members to utilize should internal resources reach capacity.
  • Supports the oversight and administration of scholarly activity investment through the School of Medicine Academic Chair funds as necessary.
  • Manage and promote a scholarly activity and research navigation guide for all Creighton learners to understand the process and requirements for research and quality project development at each site.
  • In partnership with academic leadership, develop and maintain mentorship listing to support learners in identifying project mentors.
  • Work with GME program leadership on regular scholarly activity reporting.  Partners with school of medicine to track medical student research projects.
  • Lead point of contact for Phoenix-based annual Academic Excellence events and Quality Improvement/Patient Safety symposium that Creighton learners participate in.
  • Annually address department and institution quality improvement metrics and goals.
  • Identifies best practices and future trends to continuously improve offerings/support to faculty and learners.
  • Seeks and supports application process for grant funding to support scholarly activity initiatives.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Associate degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years related experience required.
  • Research administration experience, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Experience in the research publication process, familiarity with statistical analysis and technical writing is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Prefer applied knowledge of adult learning theory and educational psychology, with a documented history of learner support success.
  • Familiarity with IRB and related applicable terminology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to communicate information and processes to a variety of audiences.
  • Proven attention to detail with critical thinking, problem solving and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills; demonstrated knowledge of organizational and administrative support processes.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Access, Excel etc.)
