About the Department:

The mission of the Enterprise Applications (EA) department is to plan, implement, and maintain integrated central and distributed information systems and associated databases that support the business needs of the University. These systems include the Banner administrative applications (supporting student, finance, admissions, human resources, payroll, financial aid and procurement), Data marts/Business Intelligence (supporting strategic and operational end-user reporting requirements), decentralized systems and web applications (supporting budgeting, sponsored programs activity and other University applications) and support for Cloud-based platforms such as Salesforce and related add-ons, AWS, and Informatica data integration platforms. The environment is comprised of Oracle databases supporting Ellucian Banner and other administrative systems (Coeus Grants Management, Online Student Deposit, etc.), In house systems (BSN app, PATS, PODS, Faculty Hiring system, EIP, Travel Reimbursement, OSP Applications (PODS, PATS, Budget, etc.) using PL/SQL, Pro*C, Pro*Cobol, Oracle Forms, XML/JSON, ASP, JAVA, .NET Framework and Microstrategy running on Sun Solaris, Linux and Windows platforms. Support is also provided for other third party systems, such as AppWorx, fsaAtlas, Xtender (imaging) solutions, Workflow, DynamicForms, TK20 and others running on Windows and Solaris/Linux Servers. University applications written in Cold Fusion are also supported along with Web Content Management Systems using WordPress and Drupal. The Enterprise Applications Support & Development (EASD) team within the ITS's EA group primarily works closely with Mason's Provost's office and units under the Provost's office, as well as other units within the university in support of academic and research mission of the institution by supporting and addressing various needs related to IT, data, analytics, reporting, security, process reengineering/automation, and application development and support. The division strives to provide quality, timely, and efficient services to, and to collaborate with members of the Mason community in support of the University vision and strategic plan.

About the Position:

The Salesforce Administrator is a key member of the Enterprise Applications Support & Development team, providing front line technical administration and support of Salesforce including support of daily operations and change management, configuration changes, reporting, training, QA Testing, troubleshooting, and working with stake holders to ensure that applications meet their current and evolving needs. The Salesforce Administrator holds a deep technical understanding of the Salesforce platform and its capabilities and makes recommendations regarding the ongoing Salesforce deployment.
The Salesforce Administrator reports to the Executive Director of CRM and is responsible for day-to-day support and maintenance of Mason's Salesforce platform. This role collaborates with Salesforce Developers, other ITS teams, and functional units such as Enrollment Management and the Provost Office, client stakeholders, and end users to support, enhance, and expand Salesforce operations and adoption. For the end users, the Salesforce Administrator provides operational and technical support.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides oversight of technical administration and support of the university Salesforce platform, supporting the business processes within the user community;
  • Supports daily operations, configuration changes, reporting, training, troubleshooting, and working with stakeholders to ensure that applications meet their current and evolving needs;
  • Completes regular internal system audits and prepares for upgrades;
  • Works with Salesforce developers on evaluation, scope, QA/testing, release management, and documentation of development projects;
  • Works with functional administrators and other stakeholders on enforcement of governance, security, and operational standard operating procedures and task coordination;
  • Critically evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts, decomposes high-level information into details, abstracts up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguishes user requests from the underlying true needs;
  • Assesses the impact of new requirements on Salesforce.com and all upstream and downstream applications, systems, and processes;
  • Effectively acts as the liaison between our users, vendors, and the application development teams;
  • Performs the tasks and duties assigned effectively and efficiently and directly interfaces with clients on all aspects of the work. Adheres to standard operating procedures and best practices;
  • Responsible for creating and/or maintaining objects and related fields within the platform;
  • Manages Salesforce.com data feeds and other integrations;
  • Within the platform, creates and maintains views, reports, and dashboards;
  • Performs tasks related to disaster recovery documentation;
  • Regularly provides status updates to the administration of the health of the system and usage;
  • Assists in providing training for users of the Salesforce platform;
  • Develops and provides one to one and small group user training. Develops and maintains documentation. Maintains user engagement; and
  • Performs other related duties, some of a supervisory nature, as deemed appropriate by the supervisor or their superiors. Efficiently performs specific tasks as directed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Demonstrated experience as Salesforce Administrator (generally 2 or more years);
  • Demonstrated understanding of Salesforce.com best practices and functionality;
  • Experience with Demand Tools and/or Apex Data Loader;
  • Informatica Cloud (or equivalent ETL tool);
  • Salesforce Lightning Connector and relational databases;
  • Deep technical understanding of the Salesforce platform and its capabilities, as well as knowledge of related technologies and tools in order to make recommendations regarding the ongoing Salesforce deployment;
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce.com best practices and functionality;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization;and
  • Salesforce Administrator certification required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in a higher education environment.
