Summary of Position
Keene State College invites applications for a faculty position in the Department of Safety and Occupational Health Applied Sciences (SOHAS) beginning August 2024.
Our SOHAS program, accredited by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, offers a B.S. in SOHAS and Construction Safety Sciences and an online M.S. in SOHAS. The role involves teaching undergraduate and potentially graduate courses in various formats, including classroom, laboratory, and online. Responsibilities also include curriculum development, laboratory management, student advisement, and college service. Candidates should be committed to mentoring a diverse student body, including many first-generation college students, and fostering critical thinking, civic engagement, and sustainability. Acceptable Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in occupational safety, health sciences, or a closely related discipline required at time of appointment.
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional, applied experience outside of academic settings is required. This experience should demonstrate a track record of effectively applying principles of occupational safety and health in real-world scenarios.
  • Must either currently hold or show the ability to obtain Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) within three years of appointment. This is in alignment with our department’s promotion and tenure guidelines.
  • A minimum of 1 year of teaching experience at the high school, college level, or in workplace training settings is necessary. This should include experience in course planning, preparation, instruction, classroom or virtual environment management, teaching assessment, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Candidates will be expected to provide examples of teaching assessments and demonstrate their approach to educational quality and effectiveness.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to those that hold experience in the construction industry.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who hold a board certification such as CIT, SMS, CE, CPE, CHMM, CIE, PE, and ARM
  • Additionally, the College has identified desirable qualifications that support our commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse campus community including the ability to speak a second language or to bring a multicultural perspective to the campus.
Salary Information
Salary is based on the prevailing Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement, according to which the rank minimum for an Assistant Professor is $75,230 and $65,720 for an Assistant Clinical Professor for Academic Year 2024-2025. Salary is complemented by a comprehensive benefits package. The College reserves the flexibility to appoint tenure-track or clinical rank dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
