Summary of Position

The Department of Safety and Occupational Health Applied Sciences (SOHAS) at Keene State College invites applications for an exciting clinical faculty position in the Safety and Occupational Health Program. We seek a Safety professional who can help us prepare the next generation of safety leaders. Drawing on one’s background as an experienced practitioner, a clinical faculty member’s primary responsibilities are teaching and service in a full-time (academic, Aug.-May calendar), non-tenure track position. Maintaining professional credentials and staying current in the discipline are required; publication is not. This position is a member of the faculty bargaining unit, whose responsibilities focus on delivery of instruction with applied focus on Construction and/or General Industry Safety, as well as providing service to the department, college, and, as time permits, profession.

The successful candidate will deliver effective and engaging courses to support student understanding, application, assessment and improvement of Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Health Program Management Components and Systems. Candidates with demonstrated knowledge and skills in occupational safety and health, construction safety, toxicology, industrial hygiene, environmental health, risk management, ergonomics, loss control, and injury and illness prevention strategies are particularly desirable. Teaching venues include classroom, field, laboratory, and on-line, for both undergraduate Construction Safety Sciences and SOHAS program degrees. Primary teaching topics may include: general industry and construction health and safety practices; leadership and management integration of health and safety; the role of metrics and continuous improvement processes; safety, health and environmental gaps analysis; risk management; adult education and training; hazardous material handling; prevention through design; injury and illness prevention; and organizational strategies for proactive health and safety improvement. Additional responsibilities include student advisement, curriculum assessment and development, laboratory and field trip management, relationship building with affiliate programs, alumni and employers; and department and committee service. The clinical faculty teaching load typically includes four (4-credit) courses per academic semester. Faculty may also have an opportunity to teach courses in the College’s Integrative Studies Program

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Public Health, Environmental Health or related field; five years of progressive health and safety experience which required program development, implementation, assessment and improvement; and germane Board Certification(s) or Licensure, such as (but not limited to) PE, CSP, and/or CIH.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in high school, professional, and/or college level class, including planning, preparation, teaching, assessment and continuous improvement. Quality Matters certification for specific online course development and delivery.

Salary Information

Salary is in accordance with the prevailing Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement. Salary at the rank of Clinical Instructor was $62,180 for Fall 2019 and is subject to change with the anticipated Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement. Clinical Assistant Professor Rank may be considered for terminal degree, and extensive professional or teaching experience. Salary is complemented by a comprehensive benefits package.
