The EH&S Campus Program employs the Departmental Safety Advisor (DSA) concept to coordinate safety activities with each department on campus. The DSA works closely with the department, principal investigators, laboratory supervisors, and managers to ensure compliance with safety regulations. The DSA monitors activities involving the use of all hazardous materials to ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to. Also, the DSA is available for consultation in the design of experiments and facilities as regards environmental health and safety issues and requirements. The DSA is also responsible for ensuring a safe work environment for administrative departments and facilities management. This includes but is not limited to fire and life safety, ergonomics, injury prevention, and accident investigations. The DSA assists in developing programs and completing projects to improve health and safety for the University.
The EH&S Campus Program assists the UCSF Technical Safety Committee and the Safety Officers with the development of policies and procedures and review of use authorizations regarding the safe use of hazardous materials.
The UCSF Office of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) provides safety and compliance guidance to all UCSF operations and facilities, including activities across both the Campus and the Health System. Under formal Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with both the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) and the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), EH&S Fire Prevention staff perform plan review, construction inspections, existing building inspections and other work on behalf of OSFM and OSHPD, providing reviews and code enforcement on behalf of the agencies.
