Description of Work Unit | The Department offers degrees in Forest Sciences and Rangeland Ecosystem Management as well as a professional Masters of Natural Resources. Several of the undergraduate programs are accredited by Society of American Foresters and Society for Range Management, which provides an important connection between our department and these professional societies. In addition, the Department offers minors in Forestry, Rangeland Ecology, and Ecological Restoration. Faculty members may also direct graduate students in the interdisciplinary Graduate Degree Program in Ecology (https://ecology.colostate.edu/). The Department has over 500 undergraduates and 60 graduate students. Warner College of Natural Resources houses the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS), one of only five state forestry organizations in the United States still governed by a land grant educational institution. The CSFS and Warner partner to offer unique internship and experiential learning opportunities for FRS students. Moreover, CSFS relies heavily on FRS programs to meet their critical workforce needs. Warner College is also home to several interdisciplinary centers and programs, including the Colorado Forest Restoration Institute, the Center for Collaborative Conservation, the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands, and the Colorado Natural Heritage Program. Warner College is one of eight academic colleges at Colorado State University. The Department and College are active participants in programs and courses at CSU’s Mountain Campus at Pingree Park, a 9,000-ft and 1,600-acre campus and conference center. Colorado State University is a land grant university with about 27,500 students located in Fort Collins, Colorado. Fort Collins residents enjoy a high quality of life and the city is often rated as one of the best places to live in the United States. The city has numerous bike paths, a vibrant downtown and community, and is adjacent to the Colorado Rocky Mountains, with easy access to many outdoor activities. |
Position Summary | This position will provide collaborative analytical and research support on forest and urban forest trends and conditions across the United States and territories. The incumbent will interface with the US Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Program at the local, regional, and national levels regarding defining, collecting, processing, maintaining, analyzing, monitoring, and reporting on the status of forest and urban forest conditions. The research activities may include any and all of the following: literature reviews, data analysis, data reporting, protocol validation, methodology streamlining, data certification, manuscript writing, and public presentations to diverse stakeholders, analysts, collaborators, and partners.
