The Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown University invites applications for two RTG Postdoctoral Fellowships beginning July 1, 2022. The appointments are for a fixed term of three years, with a teaching load of two courses per year. All applicants must be US citizens, nationals, or permanent residents, who have held their PhD for no more than two years as of January 1, 2022 or are graduate students who will complete their PhD requirements by the position start date. The positions are funded partially by the NSF-funded Research Training Group “Mathematics of Information, Data, and Applications to Science”. Our research has a strong interdisciplinary flavor, combining foundational stochastic, statistical, combinatorial, dynamical, and computational work with concrete applications. Applied projects will involve collaborations with domain scientists from other disciplines, including astrophysics, biology, engineering, and neuroscience. The RTG is part of a vibrant community of researchers at Brown who work on data science, and we invite you to find out more about this community by visiting Brown’s Data Science Initiative. In addition to research and teaching, RTG Postdoctoral Fellows will have the opportunity to mentor graduate and undergraduate students and participate in RTG activities. More information about the RTG and the applied mathematics department can be found on the RTG website and the department website, respectively. We value diversity and inclusion as essential to achieving excellence, and especially en-courage applications from those belonging to groups traditionally underrepresented in the mathematical sciences. We will use past record and potential for future contributions in re-search and teaching, alignment with our research goals, potential for engagement with the RTG activities, and contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion as criteria for this search. To apply, please submit through MathJobs an AMS cover sheet, a cover letter that includes a discussion of their interest in being part of our RTG, a curriculum vitae with publication list, a concise description of research interests and goals, a concise description of teaching interests and goals including the applicant's experience with or ideas for teaching in a diverse and inclusive classroom, and, optionally, a description of contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We also require three letters of recommendation, with at least one letter addressing the applicant's teaching experience or potential. Consideration of applications will begin on December 6, 2021. Inquiries should be sent electronically to Bjorn Sandstede ([email protected]). Brown University is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic global community; as an EEO/AA employer, Brown considers applicants for employment without regard to, and does not discriminate on the basis of, gender, race, protected veteran status, disability, or any other legally protected status. |
