Job Summary

Under the direction/consultation with the Principal Investigator (Director) of a high input recharge unit, responsible to provide the technical expertise to assemble/disassemble and test laboratory equipment to ensure proper calibration, based on the parameter requirements of projects submitted for analysis. Responsible for the engineering design of methodology, testing, and set-up of instrument systems associated with agents /specimens received, troubleshooting of methodology, and equipment. Responsible for the planning, organizing, and performing of work/research projects using biological specimens; for maintaining or improving functional performance of equipment while targeting better sensitivity and specificity; for defining best practices for method validation using knowledge of method validation guidance documents; for developing protocols for and maintaining electrical equipment; for reporting data to research collaborators in written and graphical formats. Will be instrumental in the engineering of equipment proficiency testing assessments, testing and maintenance of the laboratory equipment used for analysis using a variety of agents; data acquisition and reporting meeting state and federal regulations (when applicable).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum Education/Experience:

 

  • Advanced academic degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field, or equivalent combination of experience/training.

 

  • Knowledge and experience in analyzing, designing and engineering required lab apparatus and instrumentation-integrated software including MatLab, LabView HPLC Systems, with attention to safety and performance.

 

  • Experience with troubleshooting and maintaining or improving functional and performance of equipment while targeting better sensitivity and specificity.

 

  • Knowledge and experience with BioChrom 30 amino acid analyzers, D2O with gas chamber systems, Microplate Readers.

 

  • Knowledge of and experience with method development and validation for bioanalytical chemistry.

 

  • Experience maintaining laboratory equipment, records, inventory, and records.

 

  • Experience reporting laboratory data and results clearly and succinctly.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Preferred Education/Experience:   

 

  • Experience to extract engineering and scientific methodology from literature.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

 

  • Engineering skills and knowledge to troubleshoot and maintain highly complex and technical laboratory equipment.

 

  • Knowledge of microcomputer and operating environments.

 

  • Knowledge of biological material properties, handling and testing.
