Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Contracts Associate is responsible for review of grants and agreements in compliance with policies and procedures, as well as other contracts which may be assigned by the team manager. The Associate may support senior contract and grant specialists with the preparation, drafting, and negotiation of agreements; perform special projects assigned by the manager such as data reporting and analysis; and will assist Contract Officers with development, compilation, and submission of contract proposals for research and public service activities in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies.The Contract Associate may coordinate with senior contract and grant specialists on complex agreements and get input from faculty, clinicians, and campus administrative offices. The Associate will be responsible for reviewing agreements for compliance with policy, internal guidance, and completing all assignments in a timely and professional manner. The Associate analyzes problems, gathers data and information, recommends solutions, and completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official. The incumbent will provide cross-coverage to other Associates as needed for vacancies/absences and during high volume periods.

Department Description
The Office of Sponsored Research is an advocate for all researchers at UCSF and provides them with comprehensive pre-award services. The OSR, a $23M operation, is comprised of eleven shared service teams, including 151 Proposal and Grants Specialist and Officers, Contract and Award Specialists and Officers, Associates, and Assistant Team Managers and Team Managers supporting 2000+ faculty, and is responsible for all pre-award grant activity for the campus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- One (1) or more year(s) of related work experience.
- Ability to manage a high volume of transactions. Ability to prioritize and organize work; ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to perform moderately complex data analysis or customized reporting.
- Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focus. Ability to coordinate effectively with various levels of stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain current knowledge of compliance regulations in relevant areas of research administration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Juris Doctor Degree
- Previous experience working with research grants and contracts
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
- Knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
- Understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal or reporting principles.
