Department Description

The UC Davis Genome Center in the College of Biological Sciences coordinates interdisciplinary research in the areas of genomics, metabolomics, proteomics and bioinformatics, and is involved in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. The Center carries more than 250 employees. Annual expenditures total more $25 million from multiple sources. Approximately $6-7 million of expenditures come through the Center’s six service Cores, which provide genomic technologies to approximately 700 customers both on and off-campus.

This position is one of two Financial Analysts for the Center. During absences, one provides full back-up to the other.



Job Summary

Under general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), serve as one of two financial/budgetary analysts for the UC Davis Genome Center.

Provide analytical and financial support in proposal processing, contract and grant administration, budget development, post-award fund management, forecasting and closeout activities. Manage a segment of Genome Center Core Facilities, managing accounts, providing financial analysis and reports, and assisting with rate development. Independently provide forecasting, planning and management of assigned research portfolios. One-on-one meetings with relevant constituents are on ongoing part of this position.

While remote work sites will be considered, it is expected this will be a position mostly onsite in the Genome Center’s Genome and Biomedical Sciences Facility (GBSF) on the UC Davis campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

·       Financial analysis experience including cost allocation, forecasting, and strategic planning to analyze, compile and interpret financial data and reports to present complex data for decision making purposes.

·       Experience working on extramural funds, including detailed budget preparation, assistance with scopes of work, financial analysis and forecasting.

·       Experience using automated financial and payroll/personnel systems.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

·       Critical thinking skills in problem solving complex issues, analyzing and interpreting data and policy and placement of issues into context.

·       Organizational skills to work with changing priorities and demanding workload and to use independent judgment to make logical decisions.

·       Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, and negotiate services and/or agreements.

·       Computer skills to utilize various programs and software for word processing, spreadsheets, and website applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

·       Familiarity with federal and private compliance regulations governing grant budgeting, financial reporting, cost-sharing standards, cost allocation, and policies regarding use of grant funds.

·       Leadership skills to implement new systems and processes that improve the overall effectiveness of the unit.

·       Familiarity with UCD automated financial systems (UC PTH, Cognos, AggieEnterprise/KFS, AggieExpense) or ability to learn new systems (including proposal submission systems), as required.
