Salary Range

Essential Duties

  • Repair cracks and blisters. Caulk cracks.
  • Correct misaligned tiles and defective flashing.
  • Apply multiple cold process overlay and asphalt shingles.
  • Install and repair waterproof and reflective coatings.
  • Maintain sealants on horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces; such as building control joints and concrete roof structures.  
  • Clean roof surfaces and gutters of debris.
  • Moisture-proof stem walls, foundation walls and planters.
  • Apply multiple torch down overlay and flat roof flashings.
  • Utilize hand tools (e.g. hammers, screwdrivers, brooms, scrapers, trowels, saws, knives), power tools (e.g. nail gun, drills, saws, torches, heat weld gun), and equipment (e.g. power washer, generators, compressors, leaf blower).  Schedule and perform roof inspections.
  • Estimate materials and labor for repair and installation of various types of roofs and waterproofing.  
  • Maintain preventative maintenance records.
  • Maintain and stock repair materials for several different roofing/gutter systems; maintains/replaces all heat tape/mats relative to roof structure.  
  • Maintain/repair single-ply roofing membranes.  

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 5:30AM-2:30PM 


Minimum Qualifications

Six years of roofing experience; OR,
Completion of a four year federally approved technical training program in roofing; OR,
Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

Experience in: 

  • installation/repair/maintenance of roofs for at least six years (single-ply PVC, built-up Asphalt, spray Urethane foam, waterproofing); 
  • use/maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment of the roofing and waterproofing trade; 
  • estimating material and labor for repair/installation of roofs/waterproofing; 
  • identifying and performing preventive/reactive maintenance on various types of roofs and waterproofing; 
  • working in a team and independently. 

Working Environment

Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally required to sit; walk and climb or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and fumes or airborne particles, restricted movement. Working conditions include restricted movement, dirty environment, air contamination, intense noise, hazardous materials and lifting or carrying heavy objects up to 100 pounds.  Work outside in extreme temperatures and in a dirty environment. May be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting.  Ability to push and/or pull approximately 200-300 pound weight loaded on wheeled maintenance carts to transport tools and equipment throughout campus to job site. Utilize personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator).  Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator).  Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use. Drive University vehicle/cart. Communicates effectively.

This position is located at the ASU Tempe Campus

Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment.  Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.

Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of employment, to include asbestos worker clearance, respiratory clearance questionnaire and respiratory fit test. 

May participate in programs which involve adherence to program regulations, including physical exam, annual testing, x-rays, medication, vaccinations at ASU expense, and completion of a Health Surveillance Questionnaire.

This position may require working a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule and may be called in for emergency response including nights, weekends, and holidays.
