The UC San Diego Alpha Clinic is the cell and gene therapy arm of the Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center and specializes in early phase, first-in-human trials. The Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center is devoted to accelerating the translation of all types of stem cell research to safe and effective therapies. It attracts patients, funding agencies and study sponsors to participate in, support, and accelerate novel stem cell clinical trials and ancillary studies for a range of difficult diseases. The Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center has expanded to be one of six centers under the umbrella of the Stanford Stem Cell Institute.

We are looking for an ambulatory care RN with strong critical thinking, communication, care coordination, flexibility, and patient advocacy skills. In this dynamic role, the RN will work with a team of physicians, APPs, LVNs, and clinical research staff to provide care for both research and standard-of-care patients. The RN will be responsible for direct patient care in the clinic setting including clinical triage, taking vital signs, giving injections, drawing blood, performing EKGs, and other nursing procedures as indicated. This clinic RN position focuses on care coordination and management of research and oncology patients across physician and advanced practice provider clinics. Provides oversight for LVNs.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously, consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.

  • (RN) license issued by the state of California.

  • BART or BLS certification at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART training within six months of hire date.

  • A minimum of two (2+) years of Ambulatory Care (Clinic) experience.

  • A minimum of one (1+) year(s) of Clinical Trials or research RN experience.

  • Experience processing prior authorizations for specialty medications and durable medical equipment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, using tact and diplomacy to interact effectively with all levels of professional staff and a diversity of patients.

  • BSN or MSN.

  • Knowledge of Stem Cells.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII or CNIV level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $123,902 - $173,659 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $59.34 - $83.17

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
