UT Health San Antonio is broadening its reach in clinical care with the opening of the new UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty & Research Hospital .  This eight-story 144-bed facility will offer uninterrupted patient care in one location within San Antonio, TX, the 7th largest city in the U.S. 

Job Summary:

Oversees the administration of patient care operations, including human resource management, operations management, facilities/physical assessment management, business center operations and patient coordination.  Ensures high-caliber patient care and treatment.

 

Job Duties:

  • Oversees and participates in patient care operations.
  • Ensures operational practices are continually improved through the development, implementation and evaluation of continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with institutional, divisional and unit based policies and procedures as well as external regulatory requirements.
  • Provides financial oversight to include supply inventory, equipment budget preparation and implementation.
  • Ensures performance to annual budget by taking corrective action when appropriate or necessary.
  • Develops, monitors and enforces productivity and performance standards.
  • Ensures maintenance of all practice standards.
  • Develops staffing plans and justifies incremental resources.
  • Remains current and proficient with regulatory requirements for the provision of clinical services.
  • Conducts accreditation readiness audits to assess compliance with standards and to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Assures compliance with regulations including policy and procedures, documentation, and care practices.
  • Manages department specific key performance indicators (KPIs) – quality, safety, and service.
  • Evaluates the patient care delivery processes on a regular, systematic, and frequent basis, reporting findings to appropriate leaders.
  • Supports shared leadership structure and works collaboratively to accomplish goals and positively influence and support team members.
  • Directs, develops, and implements strategic and operational projects, processes, programs, and services either through independent/highly autonomous work or through the facilitation of work teams to enable the effective and efficient completion of objectives. 
  • Works in cooperation with the Medical Staff to ensure regulations and accreditation standards are maintained. 
  • Oversees activities of the department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence, and efficiency to accomplish strategic and operational objectives.
  • Promotes a practice environment that empowers nurses to provide effective, compassionate, efficient, and quality nursing care.
  • Performs patient and employee rounding daily.
  • Provides timely guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem.
  • Participates in selection, scheduling, supervision, development, retention, and evaluation of employees.
  • Facilitates the development of a diverse workforce through recruitment, promotion, and cultivation of talent.
  • Implements employee engagement activities inclusive of unit-based practice councils and purposeful individual employee rounds. 
  • Assists with staff meetings, special projects and the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement activities. Communicates data and solicits input from staff regarding performance and quality improvement i.e., patient safety, infection control.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or higher from an accredited school of nursing required
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of professional nursing experience with at least one (1) in area of specialty
  • Two (2) years in a supervisory role is required.
  • Current Texas BON (or Compact State) RN license required or Temporary TX RN license.  Permanent license should be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • ACLS required for certain specialties
  • Specialty areas may have increased experience requirements as dictated by unit or standard of care
