Job Summary:

Competent Clinician.  Experienced, knowledgeable, and skilled in specialty area.  Competently functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team.  Practice is characterized by predominantly interdependent decision-making.  Practice is problem focused, but patient centered in the manner care is provided. Able to manage unexpected or emergency situations that are commonly seen in assigned specialty population.  Serves as a resource for nursing staff.  Can manage commonly seen contingency situations that arise on his/her clinical unit.

 

Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:

  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents the daily care of assigned patients.
  • Identifies nursing diagnosis/patient care needs, individualizes care plan, and revises plan of care as needed.
  • Executes physician's orders for all assigned patients; administers medications and treatments and delivers population specific competent nursing care in accordance with UTHSCT's policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs technical procedures/skills in the specialty area of oncology which includes the administration of medications and treatments specific to cancer care primarily.
  • Performs and reports Point of Care testing.
  • Provides basic patient/family instruction and healthcare teaching.
  • Promotes positive guest and patient relations.
  • Respects and supports patient rights.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times
  • Prioritizes and organizes work so that required assignments are completed within a specified time frame.
  • Attends/participates in unit meetings/activities and supports the philosophy and goals of the unit department and organization.
  • Required to maintain competency in the patient safety functions related to their position. 
  • Completion of Annual Mandatory Training, TB testing, and required licensure and certifications before expiration date.
  • Accountable for the identification and reduction of unsafe practices that could cause harm to patients.
  • Responsible for acquiring working knowledge of and maintaining ongoing understanding of required practices, procedures and processes to meet and exceed regulatory compliance standards.

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

·         EMR experience

·         Ability to operate standard office equipment and medical equipment such as I.V. pumps, portable oxygen, fluids, etc.

·         Advanced, specialized nursing skills as appropriate to the nature of medical activity.

·         Advanced knowledge and understanding of all protocols and procedures within the specified clinic environment.

·         Show competency in point of care testing and quality requirements for that testing.

 



Qualifications

 

 

Required Education / Experience:

·         Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing.

·         RN with 2 years clinical experience.

·         At least one year Oncology experience preferred.

·         Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Required Certification / Licenses:

·         Must possess and maintain a current RN license or compact RN license to practice in Texas.

·         Must possess and maintain current CPR Healthcare Provider.

·         Specialty Certification preferred at hire and required within 12 months of eligibility.

·         Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred upon hire or within 24 months of eligibility if not experienced in an outpatient oncology setting or within one year if experienced in an outpatient oncology setting.

·         Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certificate of added qualification preferred upon hire or required within 90 days of employment.
