Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes, Adult Clinic has an opening for a full-time Instructor (RN- Diabetes Educator) position.

Nature Of Work

The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC) Adult Clinic at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a multi-disciplinary diabetes center affiliated with the University of Colorado, School of Medicine. The patient population is primarily adults aged 18 and above with Type 1 Diabetes, but also includes occasional patients with Type 2 Diabetes. In addition to the clinical program, the BDC has a large research program allowing many ongoing educational opportunities. This Instructor position is an at-will faculty appointment. This position will provide diabetes care to newly diagnosed and established adults who have Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes. This appointment will also require involvement in multiple research studies.

Duties And Responsibilities

The position serves as an RN at the Instructor level. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide diabetes education and follow up to newly diagnosed and established adults with diabetes
  • Education and follow up to new insulin pump patients
  • Education and management of pregnant patients with Type I diabetes
  • Education and case management for adults who have Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
  • Phone consultations with patients and other nurses, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants and physicians in the community
  • Determine appropriate options in resolving complicated inquiries and/or issues related to diabetes management
  • Coordinate research protocols involving insulins, glucose meters, insulin pumps and medications used to manage diabetes
  • Contribute to new and ongoing diabetes clinical research protocols
  • Charting/data entry in EMR
  • Educate patient, families and extended families in diabetes management
  • Maintain high standards of existing ADA accredited diabetes program

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires good interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated ability to work under pressure, the ability to multitask and the willingness to learn and comply with relevant laws, rules, regulations and policies. 

Working Conditions

This position is 100% FTE involving clinical care and pharmaceutical research.  Schedule primarily Monday – Friday, but occasional weekend or extended hours required for research studies.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at $60,000 to $75,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Must be a Registered Nurse licensed to practice in Colorado
  • Bachelors Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous clinical and research experience
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Type 1 Diabetes
  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES)
  • Phlebotomy and IV skills
