  • JOB DUTIES

Description

In this role, you will provide nursing care to infants, pediatric and adult patients. Duties include greeting and rooming patients, assessing and recording patients’ vital signs, performing food and drug challenges as well as oral immunotherapy procedures to pediatric and adult patients, administering immunotherapy injections and monitoring patients for any adverse reactions, recognizing early signs of anaphylaxis and assisting physicians in treating patients with anaphylaxis, administering medications via IM, SQ, PO and IV route, performing spirometry and oral inhalation treatments via nebulizer, triaging urgent calls as well as managing in-basket messages, medication refill requests and prior authorizations, keeping track of medication inventory for the clinic, ordering supplies for procedures and controlled/narcotic medications for IV/PO drug challenges and skin testing, maintaining accurate count of controlled medications in the narcotic log book. Other duties include sending instructions for food/drug challenges to patients, educating patients on the procedures and how to prepare for them, following-up with patients after challenges, scanning and uploading documents into patients’ charts, filling out school forms and accessing CVCs. Salary range: $59.46 – $88.39/hourly

Qualifications

Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of California BSN degree At least two years of clinical allergy experience. Ability to take vital signs, administer medications and obtain drug refills as needed Ability to recognize abnormal laboratory values and report to physician Knowledge of symptomology of common and/or life threatening medical problems Possession of an active CPR/BCLS card through AHA or ARC Working knowledge of instruments and supplies required to perform physical examinations and other routine clinical procedures Ability to work effectively with patients, physicians and staff in a diplomatic and professional manner in order to maximize operations. Skill in prioritizing assignments and managing multiple tasks Team building skills to include prior supervisor or lead experience Ability to work effectively as a member of a team in order to provide effective patient care Skill in monitoring complex clinician appointment schedules Ability to effective elicit salient clinical information such as presenting complaints from patients and referring professionals and make appropriate assignments based on established guidelines Skill in listening perceptively, conveying awareness and responding to patients and visitors with health concerns using tact and discretion Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly in person and over the phone, using appropriate grammar and vocabulary in order to share information, effectively communicate, with persons from diverse social economic and cultural backgrounds Ability to triage patient issues to achieve resolution Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with sensitive and confidential information using judgment and discretion. Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference, and hostility Ability to accept directions from supervisors and act promptly Required knowledge/experience in providing allergy skin tests/ food & drug challenges/interpret- make assessment of results for patients of all ages including infants. Required knowledge/experience in venipuncture/ withdraw blood for patients of all ages including infants. Required knowledge/experience in managing adverse allergic reactions on patients of all ages including infants with severe allergies/ including but not limited to: administering oral medications in liquid form to infants in a collected , rapid manner to control adverse reactions and prevent anaphylaxis.
