The Cornell Store is a dynamic center of activity on the Cornell University campus and is considered a national leader in collegiate retailing and innovation. We are a self-funded, independent enterprise within the Student & Campus Life division of Cornell University. Our goal is to provide exceptional customer service and high-quality products that meet the needs of the Cornell Community. Our multi-channel business offers various retail options, including a 22,000 sq. ft. flagship campus store, three expansive e-commerce sites, and three satellite locations throughout the Ithaca area and NYC. These avenues produce an impressive $26 million annual retail sales, serving Cornell students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors.


Cornell Retail Services is searching for one (1) Retail Sales Specialist in our Tech Connect location.

  • Main Store - Tech Connect - At our flagship store on central campus, the Tech Connect department encompasses a range of products critical to the academic success of our students, faculty, and staff. These products include computer hardware, software, and technology accessories.

The Tech Connect team at The Cornell Store uses relationship-building techniques to engage customers and inspire them to explore technology. They focus on creating a strong connection with clients and staying updated with the latest products and services through training. The team assists with sales, returns, and promotions throughout the store.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build positive customer experiences by exhibiting empathy, building relationships, and offering solutions.
  • Process transactions such as sales orders, returns, and exchanges.
  • Achieve profitable growth to meet team and individual goals while enabling an excellent customer shopping experience.
  • Continuously enhance your knowledge and skills by learning and engaging in self-development activities.
  • Utilize available tools to stay current on promotional initiatives and help execute profitable growth.
  • Discover the deeper needs of our customers to create long-term sales opportunities.
  • Actively participate in our learning culture to continuously improve your skills and support our customer-centric approach.
  • Maintain merchandising and department readiness to serve customers within a specified area.
  • Assist customers by identifying technical problems and providing support for product repairs.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of experience in a retail environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. College coursework, associate's degree, or other formal training is preferred.
  • Competency with computer/systems use.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated passion for customer service
  • Ability to occasionally climb ladders and lift and/or move 25-50 pounds as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional work experience in business management, hospitality, fashion/design, and or other related fields.
  • Prior experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems
