Description
Lower Columbia Fish Enhancement Group (LCFEG) is seeking a Restoration Project Manager to join our team of conservation-minded professionals. We currently have a staff of five and this position will be our second project manager. Project managers are a critical part of our restoration work—they scout, plan, seek funding and permitting, and oversee habitat restoration projects. Much of the day to day work occurs indoors at a computer but you will need to be willing and able to work outdoors in all kinds of conditions. This position requires knowledge of watershed function, ecology, and fish biology and a good balance of technical knowledge and people skills. An effective project manager is also self-motivated, organized, creative, team focused, and an excellent communicator. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: • Determining high priority projects and pursuing potential funding sources for these projects. Writing/managing grant application proposals. • Coordinating with local watershed Lead Entity staff and other partners to identify, develop, and prioritize salmon habitat restoration projects. • Directing implementation of funded projects. Managing and monitoring grants and contract budgets. Maintaining files of proposals and current/past grants and contracts. • Developing/managing project timelines, scopes of work, and budgets in cooperation with the Managing Director and staff. Ensuring projects are on schedule and within budget. • Conducting competitive bid processes and hiring/managing subcontractors (engineers, construction contractors, etc.) under the direction of the Managing Director. • Acquiring all necessary permits, landowner agreements, and access for projects. • Ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and LCFEG policies. • Managing/coordinating project consultants and contractors and associated contracts. • Directing LCFEG field staff in coordination with other project managers based on organizational needs and priorities. • Tracking and reporting project costs, invoices, and match/cost share required by grants. • Preparing reports and presentations. Providing project updates to staff, Board, and partners (Tribes, state and federal agencies, local governments, community organizations, etc.). • Participating in technical work group and stakeholder meetings for projects, as needed, including design team meetings and other meetings that relate specifically to funded projects or project development.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone with a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in restoration ecology, fisheries, environmental engineering, or a related environmental/natural resource field and at least two years of directly relevant work experience. Must have demonstrated success managing complex projects. We will provide on-the-job training for unique aspects of the position; however, this is not an entry level project management position. It’s helpful but not necessary to have knowledge of our regional watersheds and we encourage applicants from outside the state of Washington. Our ideal candidate will: • Have a good working knowledge of ecological processes as well as fish habitat assessment and restoration techniques, including in-stream restoration, fish passage, and riparian restoration. • Be adept at and comfortable giving presentations to diverse audiences. • Be proficient at using Microsoft Office programs and gathering information from various sources and applications. GIS skills are a plus. • Have a proven track record of successful grant writing, managing contracts, and developing and tracking project budgets and schedules. • Be effective at managing personal workload, setting priorities, and working independently. • Be skilled at communicating, cooperating, and building trust with colleagues, partners, stakeholders, and private landowners. • Be accepting of other points of views and ideas and make a conscious effort to promote collaboration across organizations and disciplines. • Be a team player who works well with others and puts mission before personal ego. Anticipated compensation is $29/hour to start ($60,320/year at 40 hours/week) plus the following benefits: medical, dental, and vision insurance (100% of premiums paid); 3% IRA match; 11 paid holidays; and generous vacation and sick time that accrue from day one. Our organizational culture is collegial, mission-oriented, safety-focused, and supportive of work-life balance. Initially, if desired, this position could be less than 40 (but at least 32) hours/week and still receive full benefits. Pay is likely to increase quickly upon successful project funding and satisfactory job performance.
