Position Summary
The Enterprise Physical Operations, Infrastructure, Capital Programs & Real Estate (EPO) department at WashU provides integrated operational, infrastructure, planning, and facility services that support the universityâ™s mission of excellence in education, research, patient care, and community engagement.

EPO manages and supports 28 million gross square feet across 235+ buildings and associated infrastructure systems, encompassing academic, research, clinical, residential, administrative, and support facilities across the universityâ™s campuses and operations. Serves as an unarmed, back-up/assistant to Response Officer II or Lead Officer when responding to life safety and protection of property, and emergency and non-emergency incidents on campus. Includes rendering emergency medical assistance or general first aid. Enforces University policy/procedures and criminal law. May be assigned to vehicle or foot patrol, as part of a unified team. Must be prepared to deal with a variety of complex and ever-changing situations. Needs to be able to utilize a variety of tools and techniques to resolve the situations and accurately and thoroughly record information for the official University record.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responds or reacts as a team member to emergency and non-emergency incidents (medical, law enforcement, injury/accident, et al) on campus. Takes action, or makes notes for follow-up, of any safety and security issues. Provides Emergency Management support during larger-scale incidents. When not on assignment, patrols the University properties.Â
- Receives/compiles information for incident reports and conducts initial and follow-up investigations, as assigned, under the direction of an RO II or Lead Officer.
- Conducts building checks which include checking access control devices, door locks and proactively looking for any possible safety or security hazard. Uses problem-solving skills to resolve issues found during building checks.
- Provides necessary follow-up (transports to the medical facility, notifies proper authorities, and undertakes any other necessary coordination) for faculty, staff, students, and visitors after immediate resolution of an incident.
- Assists Medical Center personnel and visitors with directions and provides escorts when requested. Partners with customers in assigned geographical areas and assists them in resolving multi-department issues.Â
- May serve as an instructor for skills training and certifications.Â
- Takes possession of found property, attempting to locate the owner, and securing property according to established procedure.
- Enforces parking regulations and provides support to the Transportation Office as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a St. Louis Metropolitan Security License within 30 days of hire.
- Must obtain and maintain a Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D Driverâ™s license within 30 days of hire.
- Obtain and maintain certification for Taser, OC Spray, Collapsible Baton, and Handcuffs.
- Applicants with a security license may already have these endorsements listed on their license and will be required to transfer to WashU.
- We have trainers who will assist those who need to get a specific endorsement for Private Security.
- If no previous departmental psychological assessment has been completed by the individual, a psychological assessment will be necessary for this position.

Salary Range
$19.29 - $29.91 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
