  • JOB DUTIES

Description

Perform routine and complex Respiratory Therapy for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients. Assignments include all Critical Care Areas, Emergency Department, Medical Floors, Operating Room and Intensive Care Units. Under the general supervision of Clinical Shift Supervisor, Assistant Clinical Shift Supervisor or relief Clinical shift Supervisor RCP II (at Westwood, with guidance from Area Clinical Specialist), or NICU Clinical Supervisor and the Director of Transport Services. Relief supervisor duties to include all daily workload assignments and operational duties of the shift. Educational opportunities will include the training of new employees and in-servicing staffs on new equipment and techniques. Customer service, communication and public relations are key aspects of this position. May be required to work in any area in the Health System. May require rotating shifts Day/Nights. Salary: $48.09/hr- $63.44/hr

Qualifications

Educational Requirements: * Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or similar * Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy or similar- preferred * Registered or Registry Eligible by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Licenses/Certifications: * RCP State License-in the state of California * Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) (American Heart Association only) * Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) * Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) * Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS/ALS)- preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: * Three years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist – preferred * Demonstrated knowledge and skill in all theories and practices of current Respiratory Therapy * Skill in organizing work efficiently * Ability to determine appropriate modes of care when provided with a care plan by physician * Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and co-workers. Listen perceptively to instructions or information. * Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written form * Skill in set-up, monitoring and troubleshooting all Respiratory Equipment * Skill in set-up, monitoring and troubleshooting ECMO circuit * Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with personnel and ancillary medical personnel. * Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of patients, visitors, and co-workers and other medical center staff as part of a team * Skill in setting priorities, which accurately reflect relative importance of job responsibilities. Working independently with minimal direction to achieve optimal results * Ability to perform more than one task simultaneously and respond positively to temporary changes in work schedule * Ability to provide excellent service, promote customer satisfaction, provide quality care and create a positive, progressive and friendly environment throughout the entire UCLA Healthcare Community, while maintaining the confidentiality of patients, their families at all times (i.e., during and after work) * Must pass physical agility test for transport team members annually and as indicated (see attached) * Ability to perform the following activities using proper body mechanics * Stand and or walk 75% of the 12-hour work day Sit, push, kneel, crouch and reach for extended periods of time * Transfer a patient weighing a minimum of 100 lbs. using equipment or with assistance * Lift and carry a minimum of 35 lbs Commitment to Teamwork and Quality to achieve commons goals and reflecting Enterprise and Department standards, which include accuracy, attention to detail, completeness and timeliness
