Occ Sum mary

Perform, evaluate and coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope o f clinical practice. Work performed in accordance with physician orders. Defined duties are performed in neonatal, pediatric and adult patient p opulations in intermediate, intensive and emergency care areas.


Work Performed

Perform all the duties and responsibilities o f the Respiratory Care Practitioner Advanced. Insertion of radial arteri al catheters. Administer Nitric Oxide Gas therapy. Administer Heliox gas therapy. Certified in adult and pediatric oscillating ventilation. Admi nister Carbon Dioxide gas therapy. Certified in Extracorporeal Life Supp ort ( ECLS) (Specific to pediatric and neonatal team).Facilitate emergen cy airway procedure. Implement clinical care protocols. Develop patient care plans for physician intensive care rounds. Provide orientation, edu cation and training for Duke residents in assigned units. Provide orient ation, education and training for Level I and Level II respiratory thera pists. Provide patient and therapeutic assessments to assure optimal med ical decisions. Review and revise policy, procedures and practice guidel ines. Assist in the evaluation of products/equipment. Maintain environme nt and supply inventory of assigned unit. Function as alternate supervis or.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge necess ary to make appropriate clinical decisions and interaction relative to t he specific age of a patient. Skills validation/certification of compete ncies for the duties and responsibilities required for a Level I and Lev el II respiratory therapist. Skills validation / certifications of compe tencies for the duties and responsibilities of this level. Must maintain annual skill maintenance requirements. Must maintain annual safety/comp liance requirements. Must maintain North Carolina annual license require ments for CEUs. Attendance at Just -in-Time supervisory training. Work i nvolves contact with patients of all ages, family members, physicians, n ursing, and all other members of the health care team. Work is performed in all areas of Duke Hospital Work may require lifting or pushing in ex cess of 30pounds.Required to carry emergency airway bag weighing approxi mately 20 pounds Work requires walking, running, climbing and bending. Minimum Qualifications
Education

Completion of a two year AMA approved respiratory care program (Associates Degree or the equivalent), with a Bachelor Degree preferred.


Experience

Two years' experience in clinical respiratory therapy, including one year experience in intensive care respiratory.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

North Carolina State Licensure Registry ( RRT) by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Certification inBasic Life Support ( BLS) Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS) Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRPS) is assigned to neonatal ICU
