Lead Instructional Consultant / Writing Specialist (Educational Resources Leader)

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional support and guidance to faculty and academic units on using writing to teach, assignment design, and grading.
  • Trains Associate Instructors and other graders to respond effectively to student writing. 
    Provides long-term planning for writing-related projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinates writing-related resources and projects within the CITL, including assignment design and teaching practice involving generative AI.
  • Directs outreach to departments, offices, and external constituencies in relation to Writing Program and CITL programs and services, including support for Writing Intensive and similar courses in the academic schools.
  • Keeps abreast of evidence-based practices and scholarship on writing theory/practice, and conducts and supports research as appropriate.

General Responsibilities

  • Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define educational resources methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority educational resources projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase educational resources initiatives.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of resources for the area of educational resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale educational resources projects with a wide audiences in support of academic initiatives.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry educational resources standards, technologies, procedures, and metrics; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
  • Works collaboratively with other educational resources leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to educational resources.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Master's degree in English or related field

Preferred

  • PhD in Composition/Rhetoric

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 4 years experience in related field
  • 1 year of management experience in related field

Preferred

  • 5 years of experience in faculty development/consulting on writing instruction, writing program administration, and/or writing-center administration.
  • Experience with learning management systems and other instructional technologies

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
