Major Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Educational Opportunity Program’s (EOP) Associate Director and under the oversight and lead responsibility role of the Milt & Debbie Valera EOP Resilient Scholars Program Senior Specialist (EOP RSP Senior Specialist), the Resilient Scholars Program Assistant Trainee advocates and facilitates the mission of California State University, Northridge and the EOP by discharging responsibilities that promote and encourage historically low income and educationally disadvantaged students, in particular Foster Youth, to seek higher educational opportunities specifically at CSU, Northridge and EOP. The incumbent assists in the development and implementation of intermediate and immediate partnership programs with the San Fernando Valley Scholars Network, for first time transfer (FTT), former foster youth EOP applicants.
• Assists the EOP RSP Senior Specialist in the maintenance of existing programs and activities, and in providing some oversight to assigned modules of the programs.
• Assists in planning recruitment programs, activities, presentations and workshops for students, parents/guardians and staff; specifically tailored to target former foster youth, probation foster youth and formerly incarcerated.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
• Demonstrated experience working with multi-cultural/multi-ethnic populations, students that are historically under-represented, under prepared, low income and first generation college students is preferred.
• Direct experience with Educational Opportunity Programs and/or Trio Programs is highly desirable.
• A valid California Driver's License is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• General knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; working knowledge of research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information; and working knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing.
• Extensive knowledge of or direct experience working with probation foster youth and/or formerly incarcerated individuals.
• Ability and specialized skills to: gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences and interviews.
• Ability to clearly express ideas and recommendations orally; ability to write clear and concise reports; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

• Classification: 3079 / SSP IA / 1
• The anticipated HIRING RATE: $3513. The salary range for this classification is: $3513-$4298 per month.
• HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
• TEMP: The SSP IA position is based on satisfactory progress and successful completion of the training program, the incumbent will be progressively promoted from SSP IA to a temporary SSP IB position. After one year at the temporary SSP IB position with satisfactory progress, the incumbent will progress to the probationary Student Services Profession II (SSP II) position.
