RESILE Executive Director

The Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University (Durham, NC) invites applications for an Executive Director to co-lead and manage RESILE, a new academic and industry collaborative. The mission of RESILE is to leverage advances in the technology, finance, and healthcare sectors to transform adverse climate risks into favorable, inclusive, and inspiring outcomes.

The core competencies of RESILE will be in the areas of systems design and simulation, machine learning and artificial intelligence, risk analysis and decision science, technology law and policy, organization and operations management, economics and financial engineering, and entrepreneurship.

The candidate will work in collaboration with Faculty Director, Dr. Mark Borsuk, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, but will collaborate closely with other institutions and industries, especially in the Research Triangle area.

Job Description:

The major responsibilities of this position will be to (1) establish and grow the RESILE collaborative; (2) serve as the managing director of the collaborative’s many and diverse activities; and (3) work with the scholarly community at Duke and industry partners to secure external funding for RESILE research and development. The person in this role will be expected to • gather an Advisory Committee of industry experts in resilience; • build partnerships with industry and other external constituencies; • organize networking events to support the formation of new collaborative research teams; • provide support to newly formed teams in planning meetings, assembling resources, and preparing external grant proposals; • assist funded teams with research and project management; • develop case studies, projects, and other modules for use in problem-based courses; • track and communicate program outcomes and measurable impact to various audiences, including administrators, alumni, and potential funders.
