Benefits Associated with this Position
Life Insurance: The coverage amount is based on two and one-half times appointment salary rounded up to the next whole thousand with a maximum coverage of $100,000 and includes the same amount of Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefits. The University currently pays the entire cost of coverage. Medical, Dental and Prescription Drug Coverage: The cost of coverage is shared between employees and the University. Rates are determined by participation in Wellness Program and use of tobacco products. Coverage is available on the first of the month following appointment date. TIAA Retirement Contributions: Contributions begin based upon the first day of employment at a contribution rate of ten (10) percent of base appointment salary paid in full by ISU. The contributions are vested immediately. There are 40 investment options from which to choose. TIAA Auto Enroll: New employees are automatically enrolled in a tax deferred retirement program at hire: three (3) percent is deducted before taxes for the program to facilitate retirement planning. Employees may opt out of the program within 90 days. Fee Waiver Program: Staff may enroll in up to 18 hours of course work each academic year at a reduced rate. Sick Leave: Accrued at a rate of 12 days per fiscal year with unlimited accumulation. Vacation: Pay level 11 and below accrues up to 15 vacation days earned per year 1 through 4; 20 vacation days per year thereafter. Pay level 12 and above accrues 20 vacation days per year Optional Benefits Voluntary Life Insurance: Additional amounts of life insurance may be purchased on employee, spouse and dependent children. Voluntary Vision Plan: May enroll within the first 31 days of employment date.
Job Summary/Basic Function
This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive residential life program. Support the Academic success of students residing in on-campus living and learning communities. This includes the development and implementation of an intentionally sequenced Residential Curriculum that focuses on the integration of academic and life-skills to prepare students for integration into their careers and communities, post-graduation. Area coordinators provide instruction and support as practitioner-scholars around areas of academic success skills, self-awareness (identify and values development, strengths identification, career exploration, spiritual development) and social responsibility (digital citizenship, community engagement, communicating across different, global competencies, etc.). They utilize StarRez and Roompact to become acquainted with all residents to establish positive relationships. Serve as instructors in the first-year social justice courses and/or for-credit student leadership development course. Provide instruction and develop experiential learning experiences related to career readiness for graduate assistant residence hall directors enrolled in the Student Affairs/Higher Education master’s program. Service as practicum supervisors for SAHE graduate students. Instruct all students in skills around conflict mediation; communicating across difference, community engagement and responsibilities, and global awareness through tasks associated with Student Conduct and Integrity, Academic Advising, Career Preparation, and Experiential Learning goals. Provides supervision and administrative support to professional, graduate, and undergraduate student staff. Provides administrative and building support related to occupancy management, facilities management, and after-hour calls/emergency response. Sits on university, division, and unit committees that develop strategies to support the learning and success of all residential students at Indiana State University through academic, co-curricular, and experiential learning initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Directly responsible for the supervision of professional live-in staff, graduate assistant hall directors, and resident assistant/social justice educators, along with the indirect supervision of front desk/customer service operations. Participates in all hiring decisions regarding graduate assistant hall directors, resident assistants, and academic peer advocates. Responsible for training the above-mentioned staff on building and department policies and procedures, intentional curriculum implementation, policy enforcement, crisis response, student development, campus resources, and social justice understanding, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Serves as a university conduct hearing officer for students residing in on-campus housing. Works with resident assistants and assistant hall directors to enforce the Code of Student Conduct and Residential Life policies and procedures, to respond appropriately in conduct situations, and to manage after-hours emergency conduct situations such as interim housing contract cancellations, interim suspensions, interim room reassignment, etc. This person is the front line of communication/response for student conflict mediation and resolution.

Serves in an on-duty capacity for the entire residential population after-hours and on weekends/holidays. Make recommendations and provide decision-making support for undergraduate and graduate on-call staff members. Serve as first-responders in situations of sexual violence, physical assaults, domestic violence, emotional/psychological crises, medical emergencies, and issues of conflict. Primary decision-maker in issues of facility emergencies after-hours and have the authority to call in over-time custodial and maintenance staff to resolve facility issues during after-hours, weekends, and holiday.

Manage all occupancy paperwork for 2-4 residence halls. This includes managing keys/lockouts/key core changes, room assignments/changes, coordinating with maintenance staff on facility issues, conducting fire drills, room condition reports, damage assessments and billing, occupancy reporting for budgeting purposes, and budget management for all hall activities. Actively communicates with students and their families regarding decisions related to the Student Code of Conduct, contract/lease issues and processes, delinquent payments, registration/enrollment status, and other administrative process student issues.

Utilizes StarRez and Roompact to become acquainted with all residents to establish positive relationships. Provides support for academic success and assists students in their transition, retention and academic/social success at ISU. Assesses the personal, academic, and social concerns and challenges of residents and intervenes with at-risk students to aid in their transition to campus/college and connect students with appropriate resources to further support success. Front line referral agent for mental health issues, academic transition issues, and student conduct problems. This position knows and understands campus resources and has collaborations and relationships with campus partners to aid in the referral process and to directly connect at-risk students with appropriate campus and community resources.
