JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The Residential Education/Pre-College Fellow assists the Director for Residential Education, Director of Residence Life, and the Director of Summer and Pre-College Programs in developing, implementing, and communicating about department-wide faculty and campus partner engagement programming, and leading the residential implementation of the Emory Pre-College program.
  • The emphasis for this position is on the Residential Education learning goal of 'Engaging Intellectually Beyond the Classroom,' through faculty and campus department partnerships in both ORSFL and Pre- College programs. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field. Experience with Residence Life is preferred.
  • Experience with summer academic programs and conferences preferred.
  • This position requires availability throughout the duration of the Emory Pre-College Program.

ADDTIONAL JOB DETAILS: 

This is a 40-hour per week, live-on professional staff position.

Program Development Residence Life:

  • Participates in the Residential Education planning team. Serves as a point of contact for faculty and campus partners interested in residential programming.
  • Builds on or creates program models for small-scale (e.g., Meals with Faculty) and larger-scale (e.g. the science of chocolate tasting, or zoom fatigue) engagement programs. Focuses on programs that cut across buildings and/or class years.
  • Serves as a resource for student and professional staff on best practices for engaging with campus partners for effective programs.
  • Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE): Contributes as a member of the Pre-College Program team to program development throughout the year; attend regular Pre-College staff meetings and 1:1 meetings with the Associate Director to plan the student life portions of the program.
  • Leads pre-college residential staff in conceptualizing of overall programming vision, including budget, calendaring, and RSVP systems.
  • Plans major trips and programs for the pre-college program, including managing budgets and vendor relationships; leads staff in planning and delivering other trips and programs.

Program Implementation Residence Life:

  • Manages logistics for engagement programs: space reservations, marketing, materials purchasing, and coordinating staffing as appropriate. Works with Assessment Collateral on program assessments, to gather data to evaluate individual program impact, guide future planning, and aid in storytelling.
  • OUE: Manages and/or oversees logistics for the Pre-College student life programming and associated outreach events: space reservations, materials purchasing, ticketing, transportation, etc.
  • Works with the Pre-College team to plan and implement airport shuttles, check-in, orientation, and the graduation luncheons for each session. Manages the development and roll-out of an Emory Pre-College Program app using Guidebook.

Communications and Reporting Residence Life:

  • Using eRezLife data and other tools, create monthly Res Ed snapshot for student staff development newsletters; develops a 'year in review' summary programming report for internal Emory audiences.
  • Identifies and develops communications tools to publicize Res Ed programs beforehand, and tells impact stories afterward (e.g., collaborate with Marketing Collateral on social media posts; explores a 'program of the month' blog or web feature; explores possibilities for and supports regular features in ECL and other Emory e-newsletters.
  • OUE: Using Pre-College evaluations and other data, develops an annual assessment report of the student life experience of the Pre-College Program and uses this report to inform planning for the subsequent cycle.
  • Works with the Pre-College Program marketing coordinator to identify marketing opportunities (stories, photos, outlets, etc.) for the program, including social media posts and pitching stories to Emory outlets.
  • Communicates with prospective pre-college students and parents as part of outreach events and the application cycle; responds to inquiries about housing, supervision, programming, etc.

Staff Recruitment, Development, & Supervision OUE:

  • Updates pre-college position descriptions annually, recruits internally and through external organizations (ACUHO-I, etc.) for undergraduate and graduate positions; oversees the application, interview, and hiring process each spring.
  • Leads a comprehensive onboarding and training program for pre-college program staff, including training in working with minors and relevant Emory resources and policies, that involves both online training modules in Canvas and in-person training & community-building prior to student arrival.
  • Manages residential staff and interns during the summer, mentoring program coordinators as they lead daily staff meetings and regular 1:1 staff check-ins.
  • Provides support and supervision during student or university emergencies and disciplinary concerns. Escalates these situations to program administration when appropriate; ensures that Emory Pre-College procedures and protocols are followed and all incidents are appropriately documented. Performs other related duties as required.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
