Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Residential Conference Assistants are responsible for fulfilling the goals and objectives that are described in the Residence Life Mission Statement. Overall, our primary objective is to create a living-learning environment that is conductive to promoting academic and personal growth among students and RCA’s.
Duties include various aspects of freshman orientation and campus visitation days, working the desk in each respective hall, and evening and weekend responsibilities and oversee camps and conferences.
  • RCA’s will have to do rounds in the building on a regular basis to ensure the building is safe and secure.
  • RCA’s must respond to crisis situations in the residence halls 24 hours a day.
  • The RCA will provide personal help and assistance to residents.
  • RCA’s should initiate contact students at the direction of the Resident Director.
  • RCA’s need to be available and accessible to students.
  • The RCA will pan and participate in programs and activates for residents with the Resident Director.
  • RCA’s are required to support Welcome Weekend, the Back to School Fall Bash, and all other Housing and Residence Life programs.
  • RCA’s are to be a positive role model and maintain confidentiality at all times. Any RCA should plan to provide leadership by display enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward activities in the community.
  • RCA’s are required to journal at least once a month, or at the discretion of the RD.
  • RCA’s are required to enforce rules and regulations. RCA’s should know and support University and or residence hall rules. RCA’s will document all violations and participate as required in the student conduct system.
  • RCA’s are allowed one week off during the following months: June, July, August.

Minimum Qualifications
  • All RCA’s must be full time students, in good academic and student conduct standing, RCA’s must maintain a 2.50 cumulative GPA to be eligible for this position.
  • It is recommended that RCA candidates have one year of previous residence hall experience, but other types of experiences can be submitted.
  • Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership, administrative and communication skills. Experience planning student events and responding to crisis situations is preferred.
  • Candidates must live in multiple-story residence halls and must be able to navigate stairs and equipment associated with the position.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal and effective communication skills.
  • Candidates should have an awareness of and sensitivity to others, a high level of maturity, sound judgment, emotional stability, flexibility, and willingness to accept responsibility. Will need to provide recommendations, staff evaluations, and examples of previous work experience.
