The Resident PGY7 assumes responsibility for academic teaching, operative case scheduling, and assignment of duties, liability, and authority to residents and medical students. Moreover, this position directs communication with the attending physicians and oversees patient care management.

JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Remains aware of the progress of the residents.

2. Supervises residents, encouraging and allowing their participation in surgeries and procedures.

3. Performs the more complex surgeries and procedures.

4. Serves as resource for on-call residents with regards to emergent and non-emergent patient care issues.

5. Organizes and oversees teaching conferences and other clinically related conferences.

6. Oversees the daily activities of the residents’ schedules and assignments.

7. Evaluates patients, orders appropriate studies, and provides follow-up care.

8. Gathers accurately essential information about all patients, either directly or by managing junior residents.

9. Devises patient-care plans at the level of an independent physician.

10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

1. This position is part of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Regional Medical Campus Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship program located at JFK Medical Center and the West Palm Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Palm Beach County.

2. Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients with known or with suspected cardiac rhythm disturbances.

3. Manage patients with arrhythmia evaluation and management, including inpatient and outpatient consultation.

4. Perform a variety of surgical implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators, and biventricular devices; performance and interpretation of invasive electrophysiology studies; and catheter ablation of both simple and complex arrhythmias, including supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, and endocardial and epicardial ventricular tachycardia.

5. Appropriately utilize cardiovascular testing.

6. Disease Prevention and Risk Factor Control: implement disease prevention and risk factor control measures, addressing comorbidities.

7. Work effectively to promote patient-centered interdisciplinary team-based care.

8. Gain competence in bedside teaching.

9. Demonstrates the ability for effective problem identification and resolution as well as the exercise of independent judgment.

10. Demonstrates dexterity and competency to perform essential and required procedures and provides complete written documentation of all procedures

11. PGY 7 Residents, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellows, are required to supervise and train junior fellows, residents, and medical students in clinical tasks.

Education:

• All PGY 7 Residents, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellows, must have a M.D. or D.O degree.

QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                                  

Education:

M.D. or D.O. in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

• ECFMG certification is required for medical degrees obtained outside the United States.

• PGY 7 Residents, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellows, must maintain a valid training license in the State of Florida throughout the duration of the training program.

• PGY 7 Residents, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellows, must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification throughout the duration of the training program.

Experience:

Minimum 6 years of experience

All PGY 7 Residents, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellows, must have successfully completed an ACGME accredited Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship program.
