Job Description Summary

Reporting to Resident Director for Pre-College Programs with additional supervision by Program Manager for Pre-College Programs.
This is a temporary position. Schedule information below:
• In residence: June 18 – July 16, Monday-Friday 5pm to 11pm, 7-8am and throughout weekends. Must be able to work late evenings with overnight on-call overnight rotation. Will be given a rotating weeknight off and 1 weekend day off per week.
• Pre-Program: June 12-18, training and pre-program support 4-10pm
• Post-Program: July 16th post program move out date, move out of residence halls by 12pm.

Essential Duties:

  • RAs will act as a supervisor and mentor for an assigned group of 10-15 Pre-College participants in a university residence hall setting. Help participants adapt to dorm life and to become independent as they grow socially, academically, and psychologically in a safe and comfortable living environment and learning atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with program team to ensure a positive experience for program participants. Actively create a welcoming and inclusive environment and uphold community standards and expectations.
  • Provide support and leadership to their residents around any issues that arise and also serve as mediators helping students establish (roommate & other) relationships and resolve conflicts. Escalate serious counseling or medical situations to the Residential Coordinators.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call nightly schedule including weekends and assist with curfew check-ins. Identify and assess situations and be able to escalate to the Residential Coordinators.
  • Assist with arrival and departure of commuter and residential program participants. Assist with evening, weekend, and off-campus activities/trips.
  • Complete administrative tasks in a timely manner and attend program staff training and meetings.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and completion of at least two semesters of residential undergraduate college enrollment.
  • At least one season of prior directly related experience working with students aged 15-18 and/or working as a residential advisor/camp counselor or similar role is preferred.
  • Experience developing and leading student activities.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills, including cross-cultural communication skills, as well as experience or interest in working and programming with diverse populations.
  • Strong work ethic including reliability, timeliness, and professionalism.

Work Environment:

  • Shares on-duty student supervisory functions with a team of RAs. The RA must live in assigned housing. Frequent and significant evening, late night, and weekend hours are required.
  • May need to go to the scene of student issues wherever they take place on campus. Climbing stairs and walking down hallways in Residence Halls will likely be required to accomplish.
  • RAs are not allowed to have visitors in the residence during the program or have visitors on-campus where program participant activities are taking place.
  • RAs are “on duty” during the dates provided above with scheduled rotating breaks during the days, including 1 vacation day per week that must be pre-arranged with the supervisor to ensure coverage.
