Job Description Summary:
The Residency Faculty is responsible for resident and medical student education, patient care, service, and research/scholarly activities within the residency program. The program director will establish the percent effort for each responsibility.

Required Qualifications:
  • Medical degree
  • Board certified in Family Medicine
  • Unrestricted license or license eligible to practice medicine in Kansas
  • DEA license
  • Experience in family medicine education
  • Family medicine practice experience
  • Experience conducting scholarly activity
  • Ability to adapt to changing medical education and practice environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous participation in faculty development courses
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Experience advising and counseling students and residents
  • Experience teaching in long-term care settings and hospice
  • Experience using standardized patients and simulation as teaching and evaluation tools
  • Procedural skills

Job Duties Outlined:
  • ½ day personal continuity clinic per week as clinic staffing allows
  • Precept in the residency continuity clinics and specialty clinics, such as Dysplasia Clinic and the Pediatrics Clinic, as needed
  • Inpatient call weeks and night float coverage scheduled at 75% compared with the full-time core faculty members in the call pool
  • Included in the holiday call rotation at 75% compared with the full-time core faculty members in the call pool
  • Supervise medical students rotating in the program for 4th year sub-internships and 3rd year rotations
  • Serve as Faculty Advisor for up to 4 residents (typically one per class)
  • Serve as Internal Faculty Liaison or Rotation Supervisor for residency curricula as negotiated with the Program Director
  • Produce and disseminate scholarly activity at levels meeting or exceeding the expectations of the ACGME Residency Review Committee for Family Medicine and mentor resident scholarly activity
  • Administrative time during scheduled workdays as scheduling allows at approximately 75% compared with full time core faculty members while accounting for time necessary to fulfil internal leadership positions
  • Faculty preceptor for community activities
  • Comply with expectations, policies, and procedures as detailed in the VCFM Faculty Handbook
  • Provides other services under direction of Program Director and Department Chair
