Summary of Position

The Office of Residential Life and Housing Services at Keene State College invites applications for Residence Director positions. These full-time 12-month live-in, benefitted positions are responsible for facilitating a comprehensive student development program in a specific residential area. This includes participating in the selection, training, and supervision of student staff (consisting of resident assistants and head resident assistants) and establishing the groundwork for the departmental community development and programming model.

Keene State College houses approximately 2,000 students in residential areas consisting of traditional residence halls, suites, apartment complexes, and houses. Current construction and renovation projects, Living and Learning Communities for both first-year students and upper-classmen, and the development of residential programs specifically for first-year and upper-class areas demonstrate a renewed institutional commitment to a quality residential experience. This focus is intentional, student centered, and dynamic in meeting the ever-changing needs of our students.

Reporting to an Area Coordinator, the Residence Director position utilizes counseling, mediation, and advising skills in all aspects of their work, including on call responsibilities. The Residence Director serves as conduct hearing officer, member of divisional and college committees, and is an integral component of Keene State College’s focus on advancing multiculturalism. Through daily interactions with residents, staff members, student leaders, and campus counterparts, the Residence Director is a vital part of the Office of Residential Life and Housing Services, and the Division of Student Affairs at Keene State College. Other minimum qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree; two year’s related experience; one year of recent and relevant live-in residence hall experience at a college/university; demonstrated leadership experience; proven written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to successfully interact with large groups, parents, the public and other professionals; experience developing and presenting educational programs and sessions; familiarity with designing student programs and activities; residence hall facility administration; proficiency with Microsoft programs and social media platforms; excellent supervisory skills; a strong commitment to teamwork and a team-based philosophy. The ability to work a variable and flexible schedule including evenings, holidays, weekends and campus closures is an expectation of this position.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field; post-bachelor’s or graduate level residence hall management. Additionally, the College has identified desirable qualifications that support our commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse campus community including the ability to speak a second language or to bring a multicultural perspective to the campus.

Salary is commensurate with experience and education, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, retirement, tuition, and paid time off. This position is part of the Keene State College Staff Association (KSCSA).
