Description

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Neuroscience Laboratory of Social Behavior in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology (PI: Junghee Lee, PhD), is seeking a data scientist who is interested in conducting innovative, multidisciplinary research in neurobiological mechanisms of social dysfunction in serious mental illness. 

The Neuroscience Laboratory of Social Behavior focuses on key mechanisms of social behavior cross-diagnostically and throughout the life span using innovative neuroscientific tools. A data scientist will participate in on-going projects on social dysfunction in severe mental illness.

 

General Responsibilities  

  • To be responsible for the overall operation of the lab. 
  • To oversee projects within the lab.  
  • To contribute to the design, interpretation and writing of grant proposals and publications.  
  • To supervise a research team, direct and teach lab practices.  
  • To manage lab equipment and supplies. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities  

  • Assumes significant responsibility for the overall operation of the lab. 
  • Oversees projects within the laboratory. 
  • Monitors results, detects and reports unusual outcomes, develops and implements modifications and provides reports or other consultation to management. 
  • Contributes to the design, interpretation and writing of grant proposals and publications. 
  • Supervises and oversees maintenance of lab equipment and orders and supervises lab supplies. 
  • Uses advanced knowledge of lab practices to direct and teach others by developing guidelines and conducting face-to-face/virtual training. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 
  • Annual Salary Range     $49,004.80 - $95,500.00

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Doctorate in a related field and one (1) year of related experience  
    • OR  Master's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience  
    • OR  Bachelor’s degree in related field and five (5) years of related experience 

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. 

    Preferences

    • PhD in the field of psychology, neuroscience, or computer science.
    • Prior experience in advanced data analytic techniques of neuroimaging data or big data and programming skills in Python, Matlab, R and Unix.
