JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA has a Researcher faculty position is available immediately in the Rojiani Lab for translational research in lung cancer biology, focusing on understanding tumor microenvironment interactions in lung cancer.  The candidate will have proven skills and experience with typical procedures in cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry including tissue culture, SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, PCR,  transfection, viral transduction, animal models etc.  The individual will work closely with the Principal Investigator in developing new research experiments; reviewing literature for applicable information; developing and executing experiments related to defined specific aims. Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others.  Present findings at scientific meetings locally and/or nationally. The individual must be able to function independently and will develop proposals for grant submission to seek extra-mural funding.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are essential as is the ability and experience to interact with team members and supervise postdoctoral fellow, research tech or graduate student, to ensure smooth functioning of the lab on a daily basis.  Assist in the execution of non-routine experiments and procedures in an independent manner. In addition, the applicant is expected to comply with pertinent laboratory regulations and work in a safe manner.  This includes the ability to maintain proper laboratory records in accordance with SOPs and policies. 

Qualifications: Doctoral Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent degree is required. Proficiency in and at least 5 years of experience performing advanced molecular biology techniques. Demonstrated understanding of basic scientific principles.  Experience with biological laboratory informatics and statistical analysis software and systems.  Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot experiments.  Strong publication record a plus. The position requires a minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position as well as a commitment to successful development of projects within the laboratory. The duration of the position is contingent upon research funding within the lab and extramural grants to be secured.
