Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Molecular and Cellular Pathology, is seeking a Researcher IV candidate to conduct scientific research in the field of pathogenesis of HIV-1/AIDS and other diseases. The candidate will perform independent research, design of experiments, provide intellectual input, perform method development, data analysis, writing of manuscripts, and contribute to grant preparation.

General Responsibilities

Working with a high degree of independence:

  • To oversee projects within the laboratory

  • To assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities.

  • To collect, enter, summarize, analyze, and interpret data.

  • To contribute significantly to the planning/design of studies.

  • To help develop long or short-term goals.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducts scientific research.

  • Develops and applies novel techniques.

  • Follows literature.

  • Solves research problems.

  • Independently drives research projects.

  • Prepares publications.

  • Helps with preparation of preliminary data for grant applications.

  • Performs oversight of research laboratory including ordering reagents and supplies, and re-stocking.

  • Trains and supervises students and other laboratory personnel.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Annual Salary Range $47,486.40 - $85,000.00



    Qualifications

    • Doctorate in a related field

    • OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience

    • OR Bachelor's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience

    • OR Associate's degree in related field and six (6) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

    Preferences

    • Experience in Molecular Biology and tissue culture techniques is desired.
