The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB, Department of Med - Preventive Medicine is seeking a Researcher IV. The ideal candidate is a well-organized, detail-oriented individual with the desired experience to support and assist the Principal Investigator(s), by taking initiative and working efficiently with a high degree of independence. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach to work and executes tasks thoroughly and in a timely manner. The candidate must also be comfortable working with diverse populations (e.g., racial and ethnic minorities, individuals of lower socioeconomic position, pregnant populations).

 

This individual will support a variety of research and scholarly activities including but not limited to:  developing and preparing manuscripts and grants, conducting literature reviews, managing and implementing research projects, supporting intervention development and delivery, and supporting other research-related duties such as data collection, participant monitoring and tracking, data management and other duties as assigned.

 

General Responsibilities  

Working with a high degree of independence: 

  • To oversee projects within the laboratory
  • To assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities. 
  • To collect, enter, summarize, analyze, and interpret data. 
  • To contribute significantly to the planning/design of studies. 
  • To help develop long or short-term goals.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

The candidate for this position will have the necessary experience to contribute to a variety of research and scholarly activities that may include, but not limited to,

  • Conducting literature reviews, writing, editing, and submitting manuscripts
  • Project coordination/management tasks (e.g., managing multiple projects and priorities, initiating and maintaining IRB applications and clinicaltrials.gov profiles; developing or refining study protocols and manual of procedures to facilitate efficient training of other staff, participant recruitment, screening, consenting, assessment, and retention procedures, data collection, tracking participants through multiple stages of a trial, maintaining records, and providing regular updates; communicating with collaborators)
  • Project implementation tasks (e.g., development and delivery of lifestyle interventions for physical activity, nutrition, and weight management, cardiometabolic health, conducting qualitative interviews and focus groups, providing behavior change counseling to intervention participants, monitoring, tracking, and reporting participant progress, adherence, and adverse events).
  • Data management (e.g., developing and managing a REDCap database, data entry; data quality management)
  • Project reporting tasks (e.g., preparing reports, materials, and publications; disseminating information to appropriate entities)
  • Developing relationships with/engaging with community partners or non-academic study partners
  • Assists in training and monitoring other staff and students on research activities both face-to-face and through virtual means.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Annual Salary Range      $47,486.40 - $85,000.00

 

Qualifications

 
  • Doctorate in a related field
  • OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience 
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience
  • OR Associate's degree in related field and six (6) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. 

 

Preferences

  • Experience conducting literature reviews, writing, editing, and submitting manuscripts.
  • Degree in exercise science, physical activity, nutrition, psychology, epidemiology, and/or public health
