The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, is seeking a highly motivated Researcher III to join the Basu Research Laboratory. The ideal candidate will have the following essential skills, strong general laboratory skills such as pipetting, centrifugation, reagent preparation, and lab equipment maintenance, basic Chromatographic experience and understanding as well as basic Mass Spectrometry experience, skill and technique. Experience in working at an academic center doing NIH grant budgets, regulatory FDA, IRB work submissions, developing business plan for unit, etc. is highly desired.

General Responsibilities

As directed:

  • To independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter, summarize, and analyze data.
  • To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
  • To develop and improve techniques for the lab.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sets up and performs experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
  • Develops and improves techniques for the lab.
  • Contributes to planning/design of studies.
  • Collects, enters, summarizes and analyzes data.
  • Monitors results, detects and reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications.
  • May assist in planning long or short term goals/fiscal management.
  • Performs maintenance of lab equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Annual Salary Range         $35,570.00 - $59,800.00

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Master's degree in a related field
    • OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
    • OR Associate's degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

    Preferences

    • Master's degree in a related field such as Chemistry, Biochemistry or Forensic Chemistry, OR a Bachelor's degree in a related field with at least two (2) years of job-specific experience.
    • Advanced Chromatographic experience, skill and technique.
    • Advanced experience in high pressure liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GCMS), and other lab equipment.
    • Experience with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and assay development.
