Description

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Med - Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care, is seeking a Researcher II to conduct respiratory disease research with ferrets and other animal models.

General Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision:

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Keeps accurate and detailed records of all experiments and findings. 
  • Collaborates with other researchers and team members to share information and advance the understanding of respiratory diseases.
  • Executes experiments.
  • Monitors and reports unusual outcomes related to animal health status and disease presentation.
  • Assists in the maintenance of animal colonies.
  • Collects specimen for genetic analyses and organizing supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Hourly Salary Range     $15.50 - $23.51

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
    • OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
    • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

    Preferences

    • Prior experience working with large animals such as ferrets.

    •  Ability to work independently under the guidance of a supervisor as well as in a team.
