The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Biomedical Engineering, is seeking a Researcher II. The Zhou lab takes advantage of a collection of genetic and genomic tools, and the first-hand experience with cellular reprogramming to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying cardiac reprogramming in human cells and apply the knowledge to improve the efficiency and clinical applicability of reprogramming. The responsibilities of this position include biochemistry assays (western blotting), cell biology (cell culture, transfection, immunofluorescence staining, flow cytometry), and molecular biology (PCR, cloning, primer design).

General Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision:

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Runs biomedical assays, cell culture, molecular cloning etc.
  • Assists in the maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment and supplies.
  • Performs basic statistical data analysis.
  • Works with minimal supervision for defined tasks and is expected to perform some assignments independently.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  •  

    Hourly Salary Range     $15.50 - $23.51

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
    • OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
    • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

    Preferences

    • Degree in a biological science preferred.
