Description

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Division of Cardiovascular Disease, is seeking a highly motivated Researcher II willing and able to learn new techniques in a fast pace, dynamic research environment. The candidate will be trained in all techniques and procedures specific to the laboratory; however, familiarity with basic laboratory instruments and equipment is highly preferred.

General Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision:

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains a mouse colony and works with laboratory animals.
  • Performs routine cell cultures (mammalian and bacteria) and basic molecular biology techniques such as RNA and DNA isolation, plasmid preparation, PCR (regular and quantitative).
  • Performs viral expression vector preparation (adeno, retro and lentiviruses).
  • Performs general lab maintenance responsibilities. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Hourly Salary Range     $15.50 - $23.51

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
    • OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
    • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

    Preferences

    • Experience with rodent animals (handling and husbandry).
    • Biomedical laboratory experience.
