Job Summary:

The Researcher I will provide technical expertise to fundamental scientific research in the Drummond-Barbosa Lab in the Department of Genetics. Specifically, the Researcher I will be responsible for working long-term on independent, discovery-based research projects investigating the physiological and metabolic regulation of stem cell lineages in the ovaries of the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster. If interested, the Researcher I will have the opportunity to attend scientific conferences to present and discuss their research. Technical aspects of this type of research include Drosophila husbandry and genetics, dissections of ovaries and other fly organs, preparation of samples for immunofluorescence analysis and microscopy, performing some biochemical assays, using molecular biology to build transgenes and other tools, maintaining detailed records of experimental procedures, data, and research specimens, etc. In addition, the Researcher I will also help PI with management of the lab and with training more junior members of the lab.

Responsibilities:
Provides technical expertise to fundamental and/or applied scientific research under the direction of senior research personnel or faculty.
  • 75% Collects and analyzes basic research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • 5% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities and assists with publications
  • 5% Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
  • 5% Assists with the development of research methodologies and procedures
  • 5% Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
  • 5% Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding

Master's Degree in biological or biomedical sciences field

Qualifications:

-Bench research experience required.
-Molecular biology skills required.
-Prior experience with Drosophila genetics or microscopy preferred but not required.


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Normal hours are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends may be required for this position.

Salary:

Minimum $45,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
