The Psychology Department, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Researcher 1 to join our team. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. The Researcher 1 performs cognitive psychology research on memory, perception, and reaction time.  The research focuses on decision making in aging, and participants include college students at the Columbus OSU campus, as well as older adults at area senior centers and libraries, and adults with memory disorders at OSU’s Wexner Medical Center.

The Researcher 1 will participate in the execution of designed experiences, including the procurement of space, supplies, and related equipment; participates in the collection, processing, and reporting of data and participates in evaluating the validity of test data obtained; coordinates the coding and editing of assessment measures or questionnaires; contacts subjects to arrange for their participation in various study sessions; organizes and prepares data for analysis; applies standard methodologies and participates in the development and revision of routing operating procedures, including means of organizing raw data; participates in judging the validity of data obtained and recommends additional modifications; performs literature searches on specified topics; establishes relationships with new recruitment partners through partnering with Columbus area senior centers, churches, and other organizations; travels by car throughout the workday to multiple work sites off-campus.

The Researcher 1 will participate in developing a new grant proposal on aging, memory disorders, and inhibition. This will involve training on several neuropsychological tests that must be administered to collect pilot data for the grant proposal. This will also require maintenance of spreadsheets that will contain experimental results as well as the results from neuropsychological testing. The Research 1 will conduct literature searches and collect references for a book that is in draft form on reaction time modeling. Proof reading will also be required.  The Researcher 1 will aid testing of Parkinson's patients with intracranial recording from implanted brain stimulators. This will involve placing an external array of electrodes to collect standard EEG measures to go with the implanted device signals and consenting the patient. The Researcher 1 will work with the programmer in the laboratory to test new experiments on both laboratory equipment and portable devices that are taken out to senior centers and the memory disorders clinic. This involves procedures for loading experiments and moving data to other workstations.  The Researcher 1 will supervise 2-3 undergraduate assistants who will also be helping with data collection.

Minimum Education Required

A Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a similar field is required

Required Qualifications

A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a research setting is required.


Additional Information:

The pay range for this job profile is $42,700 - $56,900. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
