JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences is seeking a Research Technologist in the genomics section at the Animal Diagnostic Laboratory (ADL). The incumbent is expected to perform the following duties:

  • Standardize and validate new protocols for genomics and animal disease models,

  • Assist the GB Services Manager in ordering, organizing, and storing laboratory reagents and supplies according to safety instructions,

  • Receive, record, and store samples according to standard procedures,

  • Prepare sequencing libraries and run sequencing experiments using approved standard procedures,

  • Supervise and train wage payroll employees and students in the section on library preparation, sequencing and preparing data sets for bioinformatic analyses,

  • Keep organized paper and electronic records of all data and test results,

  • Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment,

  • Maintain a clean environment and ensure that all safety guidelines are properly followed.

This is a term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with an excellent possibility of re-funding based on performance.

Education and Experience:

The successful candidate must have demonstrable technical skills in Molecular Biology and or Next Generation Sequencing. Prior experience with real-time PCR, library preparation for Illumina, or any other sequencing platforms is highly preferred. This position will be filled as a level 3 or 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience and typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher (Master’s degree preferred) in Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Molecular Biology, or related discipline, plus 7 years of related experience in molecular biology in a laboratory setting is highly preferred.

Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
