JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


A Research Technologist - Medical Sciences position is immediately available in a new stem cell research laboratory at the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology and Oncology, at the Penn State Hershey College of Medicine, in Hershey, PA.

 

The mission of this research group is to develop and implement advances in stem cell and regenerative biology into pediatric cancer treatments. Essential research responsibilities include mammalian cell culture (primary and established cell lines), genetic manipulations with mammalian cells, bacterial cultures, molecular cloning, viral transduction of cancer and normal progenitor cells, RNA, DNA, protein isolation, gene expression analysis. Prior work experience with animal models and IACUC protocol writing is a plus. Skills in generation and differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) are highly desirable.

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • RNA isolation and analysis (RT, qPCR);
  • Protein purification and analysis (Western blotting, IP);
  • Immunocytochemistry (ICC) and flow cytometry;
  • Mammalian cell culture and manipulations (nucleofection, transfection);
  • Bacterial culture and plasmid DNA isolation (maxi preps of pDNA);
  • Lenti-viral media production and transductions of mammalian cells;
  • Assist with ChIP-seq and ATAC-seq techniques;
  • Manage laboratory supplies;
  • Prepare standard buffers and working solutions/stocks;
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students as needed.
  • Active participation in project development and manuscript writing.

  • Knowledge of basics of stem cell and developmental biology
  • Knowledge of cancer biology
  • The desire and ability to learn new techniques and acquire new professional skills
  • The ability to work independently and in a team
  • This position will require successful completion of standard background checks

 

This position will be filled at an Professional or Intermediate Professional depeneidng on the candidate's experience and education.  Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. 

 

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding. 

 

The following clearances must be successfully completed for this position:

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$34,800.00 - $55,500.00
