JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A Research Technologist-Life Sciences-Professional position is available immediately at The Pennsylvania State University . The successful candidate will provide research support and perform organizational activities under the direction of Dr. Kurt Vandegrift in the Department of Biology . The laboratory conducts disease ecology research to study zoonotic transmission at interface between man and animal.

The successful applicant will perform field and laboratory research under the supervision of the principal investigator (PI). Experiments will include the following techniques: Capture-mark-recapture and sampling of medium and small mammals, serum separation, management of an undergraduate team, dissections, RNA extraction and lab management. The position will also require general lab maintenance, autoclaving, reagent preparation, and data entry and organization. Participation in lab meetings and project development is highly encouraged.

Education and Experience

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher with one or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The successful applicant must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work both semi-independently and collaboratively in a research team, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with team members and the PI.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of re-funding.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$34,800.00 - $50,500.00
