UI Health is seeking a Research Technologist II to join our Stem Cell Laboratory.  This role requires experience in quality management and cell processing. The laboratory is part of the FACT accredited Stem Cell Transplant Program which cares for an adult patient population undergoing either autologous or allogeneic stem cell transplantation. The ideal candidate should have experience in aspects of processing of mobilized peripheral blood and bone marrow or umbilical cord blood for autologous and allogeneic transplantation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Executes daily operation of the laboratory, provides technical guidance to junior staff, and reports to the Laboratory Manager or Director.
  • Performs the testing, cryopreservation, storage, thawing and infusion operations of hematopoietic progenitor cells collected from patients.
  • Assist Laboratory Manager in maintaining the inventory of supplies, reagents and HPC grafts.
  • Develops and maintains patient data related to HPC graft processing.
  • Assist purchasing supplies and reagents and assist in minimizing waste and cost reduction by timely ordering and adequate inventory management.
  • Administrates patient billing, lab requests, and office/laboratory supplies.
  • Assist in developing and initiating quality control measures, revising established tolerances as necessary or desirable.
  • Plan advanced stage experimentation for new assay development, validation of a procedure or new equipment for which procedures may not exist.
  • Assist the Director preparing new scientific report or writing manuscripts or proposals, and scientific reports related to the activities of the clinical laboratory.
  • Assist in writing and implementing new standard operating procedures (SOP) for the laboratory.
  • Assist in monitoring the performance of the processing facility as well as compliance with FACT and other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Shall create reports for audits and validation of new procedures, equipment or process and send these reports to the Laboratory Director.
  • Assist in training laboratory technical staff to perform various laboratory procedures.
  • Perform initial analysis and interpretation of test results, assist in planning tests to be validated and designing internal audits for the laboratory.
  • Responsible for completion of daily work by other staff members of the laboratory and performing task in the absence of lower level staff members in the laboratory.
  • Responsible for performing professional duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager and Director.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in biological, chemical, or medical sciences (such as biology, pharmacology/toxicology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, physiology, or medical technology), or a closely related field.
  • AND
  • One (1) year (12 months) of experience comparable to that gained as a Research Technologist I.
  • A Master’s Degree in biological, chemical, or medical sciences (such as biology, pharmacology/toxicology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, physiology, or medical technology) or a closely related field may be substituted for 1 and 2 above.
