Description of Work
This position will be based in Dr. Daniel Schachtman’s lab, focusing on projects aimed at understanding the role of Bacillus subtillis and biochar in the mitigation of the effects of drought stress on corn growth and productivity. The successful candidate will be part of a larger team of researchers at UNL and Kansas State University.
The Research Technologist will execute laboratory experimental design techniques utilizing molecular biology techniques. This position will be responsible for research project logistics planning and executing research experiments. At the end of each experiment, the Research Technologist will collect, compare and analyze experimental results. Additionally, this position is responsible for managing the lab by sustaining the cleanliness of the lab, ordering supplies to keep the lab properly stocked, directing/training students and other lab staff in lab safety protocols to ensure training compliance, and maintaining complex lab equipment and performing routine maintenance on the equipment. This position will communicate with research collaborators to coordinate experiments and deliver results.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field plus two years laboratory experience including DNA extraction, quantification, PCR, microbiology or related field. Experience must demonstrate excellent communication skills, independently completing projects within deadlines, development of constructive analyses of scientific results, and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in biological science or related field. Interest in working with both plants and microbes.
