Research Technologist I - Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences (Advanced Ocular Imaging Program)

Position Description:

Purpose

Under general supervision, assist the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science’s Advanced Ocular Imaging Program with adaptive optics (AO) imaging related research projects.

Primary Functions

  • Carry out experimental designs for sponsored research projects by performing adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscopy (AOSLO) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging of the retina
  • Process AOSLO and OCT images; perform image registration and montaging using custom software and Adobe Photoshop
  • Create and maintain accurate records using spreadsheets and databases
  • Assist with the evaluation, interpretation, and assessment of experimental data and quality controls
  • Participate in meetings with Principal Investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed
  • Perform analysis of images (cell counting, tissue thickness) using custom software
  • Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

 Knowledge of biology, mathematics, computer science, and records management.

Work requires resource management, attention to detail, problem solving, coordinating work activities, critical thinking, systems analysis, operations analysis, time management, active listening, and active learning skills.

Speech clarity, speech recognition, finger dexterity, and wrist-finger speed while operating computers abilities required.

Specifications

Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education:               Bachelor’s degree

Minimum Required Experience:             No experience required

Preferred Education:                              Undergraduate degree within a STEM field preferred

Preferred Experience:                            Exposure to MATLAB preferred but not required.  Experience working with Adobe Photoshop preferred.

Certification:                                         CITI training required within 30 days of hire
